United Nations Award-Winner, International Nature School, an education program organized by Nature Society, was held for the fifth time this year and brought together fifteen young students from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and Turkey. Open to those undergraduates and final year’ undergraduates who wish to take an active part in the conservation of nature and to improve their understanding on natural world, and to apply for participating free-of-charge, Nature School started in Sarıkamış Çamkar Hotel in Kars, in cooperation and hosting of KuzeyDoğa Society on 26 October 2009. Four Azerbaijani, three Armenian, four Georgian, and four Turkish students will participate in the 5th semester of Nature School that provides the youth in search of taking an active part in conservation efforts with experiences, and that aims at establishing a human resource in this field for the sake of effectively preserving the environment of Turkey and Caucasia Biodiversity hotspot.

To be organized in two one-week’ sections, Nature School will start with fundamental ecology and biology knowledge and end with the subjects of problem analysis and sustainable solutions. Able to provide the young ones with the on-site opportunity to see the nature-related problems and their solutions and to gain experiences through the lectures of different experts, Nature School will also play a significant part in the fulfillment of the lack of human resources regarding the nature conservation in the participating countries.

Doğa Derneği tarafından bu yıl beşincisi düzenlenen Birleşmiş Milletler ödüllü eğitim programı Uluslararası Doğa Okulu, Azerbaycan, Ermenistan, Gürcistan ve Türkiye’den on beş genci Kars’ta bir araya getirdi. Doğanın korunmasında aktif rol almak isteyen kendini geliştirerek doğanın korunmasında isteyen üniversite son sınıf öğrencileri ve mezunlarının başvurarak ücretsiz katılabileceği Doğa Okulu, Kars’ta doğa koruma çalışmaları yürüten KuzeyDoğa Derneği işbirliği ve ev sahipliğiyle Sarıkamış Çamkar Otel’de 26 Ekim 2009 tarihinde başladı. Doğa koruma çalışmalarında aktif olarak görev almayı düşünen gençlere deneyim kazandıran, bu alanda yetişmiş insan kaynağı oluşturmayı ve bu sayede Türkiye ve Kafkasya Biyolojik Çeşitlilik sıcak noktasının doğasının etkin bir şekilde korunmasını amaçlayan Doğa Okulu’nun beşincisine dört Azeri, üç Ermeni,  dört Gürcü ve 4 dört Türk öğrenci katılıyor.

Birer haftalık iki bölüm halinde düzenlenecek Doğa Okulu, temel ekoloji ve biyoloji bilgileri ile başlayacak, sorun analizi ve sürdürülebilir çözümler konularıyla sonlanacak. Gençlerin doğayla ilgili sorun ve çözümleri yerinde görmelerini ve farklı uzmanların anlatımlarıyla tecrübe edinmelerini sağlayacak Doğa Okulu, katılımcı ülkelerde doğa koruma konusundaki insan kaynakları eksikliğinin giderilmesinde de önemli bir rol oynayacak.

Vultures will improve nature tourism in Iğdır, gleaning the carcasses littered.

The first Vulture Restaurant in Turkey was opened in Iğdır Green Zone City Forest in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Iğdır City Environment and Forest Directorate and KuzeyDoğa Society. Butcher leftovers and animal carcasses that will be decanted at the appropriate area, distant from the settlements and near Aras and Arpaçay Canyons where the vultures breed and are under the restriction of the Ministry, will either be a natural nourishment for the vultures facing the menace of extinction or attract the nature tourists that will frequent the area to spot the vultures.

The fact that the inauguration of Turkey’s first Vulture Restaurant corresponds to 2009 World Birdwatching Day created an extra excitement for the nature-lovers and birdwatchers that had been around Iğdır City Forest for Kars-Iğdır Nature Festival. Breeding around Arpaçay and Aras canyons, the Egyptian vultures (Neophron percnopterus) whose species are in peril of extinction and two steppe eagles (Aquila nipalensis) feeding with the discarded carcasses animated the birdwatchers. Being present there for making a documentary movie for the activities of KuzeyDoğa Society, IZ TV filmed the inauguration of the vulture restaurant.

Bırakılan leşlerle beslenen akbabalar Iğdır’da doğa turizmini arttıracak

Çevre ve Orman Bakanlığı, Iğdır İl Çevre ve Orman Müdürlüğü ve KuzeyDoğa Derneği işbirliği ile Iğdır Yeşil Kuşak Kent Ormanı içerisinde Türkiye'nin ilk Akbaba Lokantası açıldı. Yerleşim yerlerine uzak, akbabaların üredikleri Aras ve Arpaçay kanyonlarına yakın ve bakanlığın koruması altındaki uygun bir alana bırakılan kasap atıkları ve hayvan leşleri, hem nesilleri tehlikede olan akbabalar için doğal besin olacak, hem de akbabaları görmeye gelen doğa turistlerini bölgeye çekecek.
